Abel Flores is one of the protagonists of Monster Pulse. He has a monster formed from his left eye, known as Rixis.

Monster Connection

As he still functions as Abel's eye, Rixis can share what he sees with Abel, with no apparent limit to how far he can transmit this information. Rixis has more control over this link than Abel, as Rixis can choose not to let Abel see what Rixis is currently seeing. Abel does not constantly see through Rixis, and has to choose to "activate" his ability to do so. When he is not seeing through Rixis, his vision is as good as if he had two eyeballs in his head.

Abel has an Arma hole in his left eye socket where Rixis exited. He typically covers it up with an eye patch.

History

Abel was born to Emily and Marco Flores in Antler Pine, alongside his twin sister Irene. Shortly after their birth, Marco died, leaving Emily to raise the pair on her own. Emily homeschooled the twins in their secluded woodland house, only rarely travelling into town. Emily eventually fell deathly ill and passed away, leaving Abel and Irene in the care of her brother-in-law, Hector Flores.

On the night before Hector arrived to pick them up, Abel and Irene went into the woods to release Irene's animal collection. While they were there, they came across a ghost that had escaped from SHELL. The ghost made to strike Abel, but Irene stood between them and took the blow, letting the monster take her instead. A large monster took shape, and it began to approach her. Abel, having no knowledge of where the monster came from, attempted to repay Irene and save her from the approaching beast. Tragically, the monster was formed from Irene's lungs, and Abel's blow killed Irene along with the monster. (Abel would later learn, however, that the monster was too fragile to survive much longer in the first place) When he overheard a conversation between nearby SHELL agents, Abel realized what had happened, and he sought out another ghost in the hopes that he could make himself suffer the same fate. Instead, however, he found himself with a new companion, and he decided to remain alive for his monster's sake.

Relationships

Ayo

While Abel is naturally closest to Rixis, he has positive relations with the other monsters in the group. He seems especially close to Ayo, bonding with her both due to his relationship with Bina and their time shared on the Boat.

Guuzy

Though not often seen together, Abel and Guuzy seem to have a sort of friendship between each other. Abel trains Guuzy with West, and confidently directs him in battle. Abel also made Guuzy a clay statue for a Secret Santa exchange, which Guuzy was delighted by.

Trivia

• Abel was named for the book Abel's Island.
  • Abel shares some of the same struggles as the mouse from the book, being left to fend for himself on Antler Pine, separated from his family.
• Originally, Abel's last name was "Elizondo", as shown on the cast page. However, Magnolia retconned this to avoid naming Hector "Hector Elizondo", a notable actor.
• Abel would want to main Widowmaker in Overwatch, but would get embarrassed and main Hanzo instead.
• Abel would be in the Hogwarts house Gryffindor.
• When he was younger, Abel wanted to be an escape artist, like Houndini.
• Abel does not know much about dinosaurs.
